A complete transformation of the existing Central Library that once consisted of the original 1951 Library & 4-story 1979 addition. The size of the library increased from 85,000 to 105,000 sq. ft., with all but 50,000 sq. ft. new construction.
The schematic designs called for tearing down the 1950s front portion of the Library & gutting the 1979 addition, opening up space for more outdoor activities. The new library includes a reading garden, a large lawn area, an outdoor area for children & a plaza outside of the auditorium. The children’s library features a connected outdoor program space. The library includes a 308-seat auditorium, other event space & a café.
